Guest M5DSH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 I was wondering if anyone could help me ,i have just purchased a 2003 galaxy tdi 130.On driving it this weekend for the first time in the dark i found that i have got no dash illumination to all Dials,Switches,Clock etc (all complete darkness). I could not see a thing on dash.I have fiddled with the brightness slider on right hand side nr headlight switch ,but no luckI have checked the fuses under dash, all ok. Please could anyone suggest the cause or cure. Thanks Darren Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 It's under warranty, take it to a dealer and let them sweat ! Could be loose wire in the rear of the panel dimmer, or blown fuse, or a whole host of other reasons. I take it that all clocks, dials, warning lights etc work OK in the daylight ? Quote
Guest M5DSH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 i think the warranty may have run out ??it was registered on 18/03/03 but it has done 90k. will it still be under warranty??? Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Oh dear. IIRC 2 years unlimite, then limited to 60,000 miles in third year :-((Time to get that multi-meter out.If you bought from a trader, there should be some sort of warranty by law, or did you buy from a private seller? Quote
Guest M5DSH Posted July 11, 2005 Report Posted July 11, 2005 Unfortuantly i bought it privately.so i saved on the car that way, just didnt want to end up sending it to Ford garage if i could fix it myself, i have just ordered a Tis manual off Ebay, that should help me with wiring diagrams etc, just thought maybe someone here had encountered the same problem. Steven.Langdale Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Hello I'd take the instrument panel out and give the connectors a waggle, you never know and its dead easy to do. Are you sure ALL the lights are out? When I got mine it was nearly dark, just the temp and fuel were lit, the other 3-4 (cant remember) big bulbs that light the rest had all blown. it only took 20 mins to swap them. Steven Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Are you sure you can take the instrument panel out without removing the steering wheel on a facelifted model ? (I hope that you can, but seem to remember the opposite being posted on this site) Quote
greg_68 Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Hi all,I would be interested to know just how easy it is to take a look at the instrument panel connections on a mark 1. My digital readout panel illumination flickers on and off whilst driving, but this only happens with the headlights off. It is ok when you put the headlights on they light up and stay lit ok. There are obviously 3 levels of illumination. None illuminated, normal use and when the headlights are activated. The panels are very hard to read when there is no illumination at all. Thanks for any advice. Quote
Guest EVSS Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 for the mk1 , if you look at the clocks , you will see a black trim going around them , undo the screws at the top and pull off. this will allow access to the cluster, remove the fixing screws and lift them clear.(adjust column to furthermost to facilitate ease.) DO NOT turn the ignition on whilst the cluster is unplugged as the airbag system will see a fault. when we bought ours, the door ajar system didnt light up , the plug had fallen out. Quote
Steven.Langdale Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Ivor My mistake, I didn't notice the car in question was a Mk II. I'd be amazed that they changed the design so much that you had to take the steering wheel off to replace a bulb. Having said that, I'm amazed quite often! Steven Quote
chromedome Posted July 12, 2005 Report Posted July 12, 2005 Had a look at the TIS. Dash illumination appears to be fed by Fuse28 (3Amp) in the central fuse box. The TIS details tests to check for power at the light switch, etc. Good luck with the TIS when you get it, wiring diagrams are a nightmare. Quote
